Bombardier and Lufthansa Technik Sign Challenger 850 Completions Agreement

NBAA 2005

Bombardier Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik today announced they have finalized an agreement, securing 17 positions at Lufthansa Technik's Hamburg facility for the completion of Challenger 850 business jets over the next three years. This new agreement further strengthens Bombardier's commitment to offer its customers superior quality executive aircraft interiors from leading completion houses worldwide.

Lufthansa Technik uses the latest technology and materials to design and deliver aircraft interiors certified to 16G standards, within an industry leading 26-week cycle. "The addition of the Challenger 850 business jet translates to a significant upgrade of our product portfolio," said Bernhard Conrad, senior vice-president completion center and head of approved design organization, Lufthansa Technik AG. "We have now combined our 40-plus years of experience in VIP completions with the industry's top provider of innovative transportation solutions."

In addition to coordinating production and installation, Lufthansa Technik will work closely with Bombardier to conceptualize and engineer innovative and elegant executive interiors. Challenger 850 aircraft operators will also have the option of adding up to two additional fuel tanks, resulting in a range of more than 3,100 nautical miles (5,741 km) with five passengers.

"Today's agreement extends the existing alliance our companies share under Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services and offers Bombardier business jet operators even more choice for large aircraft interior completions," said James Hoblyn, vice-president, Bombardier Business Aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik has started the completion process on the first Bombardier Challenger 850 corporate aircraft, which arrived in September from Montreal. The Challenger 850 is the first aircraft of its type to enter completion at Lufthansa Technik since the facility was named a preferred completion center for Bombardier Challenger 850 business jets at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibit (EBACE) in May.

The Bombardier Challenger 850 combines the largest cabin in its class with the outstanding dependability and performance of the Bombardier CRJ200 airliner. It features flexible interior configurations, capable of accommodating 15-19 passengers. The Challenger 850 jet has a transcontinental range and a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.80.
