Bombardier Q300 Turboprop Selected by Japan for Airways Calibration

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that the Bombardier Q300 turboprop has been selected by the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) as a new-generation low- and medium-altitude navigation aids inspection and calibration aircraft.

Sojitz Corporation of Tokyo, Bombardier's sales agent in Japan, is the prime contractor to the JCAB and will acquire one Q300 turboprop from Bombardier. Field Aviation Company inc. of Toronto will provide the mechanical modifications to the aircraft and install a next-generation UNIFIS 3000 Automatic Flight Inspection System which will be supplied by Norwegian Special Mission (NSM) of Norway. The aircraft is to be delivered to the JCAB in the fourth quarter of 2006.

"The Bombardier Dash 8 family is widely operated in Japan by major airlines and its proven reliability and reputation are the prime reasons for the selection of the Q300 model," said the JCAB in a statement. The JCAB also operates two Bombardier Global Express jets for Multi-functional Transport Satellite monitoring (MTSAT) which has been launched this month to cover emerging traffic in the Asia-Pacific region.

"We are very pleased with the decision by the JCAB which proves their continued confidence in Bombardier products. This is yet another advance for Bombardier Regional Aircraft in sales of these aircraft for non-airline roles," said Derek Gilmour, vice-president, Government and Special Mission Sales, Bombardier Aerospace.

"The Bombardier Q300 turboprop was earlier chosen by the Swedish Coast Guard for maritime surveillance and our Q100, Q200 and Q400 aircraft have also been favored for non-airline missions. It is a strong tribute to the quality, reliability, cabin comfort and low operating costs of Bombardier aircraft."
