TRAXX Tackles The Corridor Germany-Austria-Hungary
Today, Bombardier announced the receipt of an order from CBRail for 15 BOMBARDIER TRAXX freight locomotives. Ten of these locomotives will be equipped with ETCS level 2. The current order, including a combination of TRAXX AC and MS locomotives, is worth approximately 57 million euros ($85 million US).
The new electric locomotives will run in cross-border traffic on different European routes. Five locomotives are foreseen for the corridor Germany-Austria-Hungary, five locomotives for the corridor Germany-Austria-Switzerland and Italy, and the final five will travel between Austria, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Final production of the multi-system and AC locomotives will take place in Bombardier’s Kassel plant. Bodyshells will be produced at Bombardier’s WrocÅaw site in Poland, bogies in Siegen and the Propulsion & Controls as well as Drives equipment manufactured at the German sites in Mannheim and Hennigsdorf. The locomotives will be powered by the BOMBARDIER MITRACsolution, offering proven reliability and energy efficiency. The MITRAC Propulsion & Controls equipment is the preferred solution by customers around the world and has been selected for more than 3.200 locomotives.
Since 2006, CBRail has purchased a total of 61 TRAXX family locomotives for pan-European freight transport. Edmund Schlummer, President of Bombardier Transportation’s Locomotives Division, stated “We are proud that CBRail has again chosen Bombardier and the TRAXX locomotive platform for reliable and economical freight transport. I congratulate CBRail on their commitment to opening new markets on strategic corridors.”
Herman van der Linden, General Manager of CBRail S.à.r.l., said: “We are pleased to reconfirm our confidence in Bombardier Transportation and in the TRAXX locomotive platform.
